Frequently Asked Questions

Is your pasta organic?

Our pasta is made with durum wheat grown in the Wairarapa using regenerative farming methods that focus on soil health, biodiversity and minimal intervention. The grain is not certified organic, but it is grown to an exceptionally clean standard with the same intent and care.

Is your pasta gluten-free?

Our pasta is made from durum wheat and does contain gluten hence is not suitable for coeliacs. Some customers who usually find pasta hard to digest have told us they experience ours as lighter and easier to digest, but individual responses will vary.

What does “bronze-cut” mean?

The dough is extruded through traditional bronze dies rather than modern Teflon plates. Bronze creates a gently rough surface that helps sauce cling better and gives the pasta a more rustic texture and flavour.

What is durum wheat?

Durum is a traditional hard wheat long used for pasta making. Its natural protein structure gives pasta its characteristic bite and golden colour without any additives. Ours is an ancient variety.

What ingredients are in your pasta?

Just two: New Zealand-grown durum wheat and water.

What is the shelf life?

Two years from the production date when stored in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.

Is your pasta vegan?

Yes, only flour and water are used.

Why is the Trumpets bag 450g when the other shapes are 500g?

Trumpets are the slowest shape we make. They extrude more slowly through the bronze die, they're the most delicate shape to handle, and they take the longest to dry and package without damage. Of our four shapes, Trumpets take significantly more time and care per bag than any other.

We had two options: raise the price of Trumpets well above the other shapes, or adjust the bag size and keep pricing consistent across the range. We chose the second. A 450g bag lets us keep making Trumpets the slow way, by hand, without charging you a premium for one shape over another.

Does 450g still feed a family? Yes. A 450g bag comfortably serves 4 to 5 people as a main. If you're cooking for a bigger crowd, two bags will leave you with leftovers, which is never a bad thing with pasta.

Can I buy your pasta in shops as well as online?
